Winston Churchill once said, "All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope."
Those same simple words are deeply rooted in our hearts as we pause to honor our military personnel this coming Veterans Day. In celebration, and with a heart of gratitude, Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Iowa will be holding their 3rd Annual Veterans Event on Monday, November 9.
Tamara Scott, State Director for CWA of Iowa, says, "In Iowa we are so thankful that we have individuals who understand that there are evils far greater than war. And unfortunately sometimes it takes war to stop them. We are grateful for our men and women, our sons and daughters, and our brothers and sisters who have offered themselves in the most sacrificial way to protect us from those who would destroy us."
This year a new award will be introduced. The Mary Jo Hoffman Award will recognize American civic leaders who courageously battle to keep our country free from threats within our nation. CWA's President, Wendy Wright, will present this year's award.
CWA of Iowa would love to see Iowans come out in large numbers to celebrate and honor our veterans. If you have any friends or family in the Des Moines area, please spread the word and forward the event flyer to anyone you think might be interested
.
"We take time to remember the fallen, we honor those who have served, and we take time to support and encourage those who have family members serving now," Scott recalls about the occasion. "We will display photos, honor family members, and hear stories that have never been told before. The sacrifice is not just being made by the soldier across the sea; it is also being made by the family who has trusted their beloved into the hand of God."
